Memory Silver Coin MINORITE FRIARY
Helena Kohoutová, founder of the Helas Business Platform, was invited in her role as administrator of the Minorite Monastery in Prague to restore and reopen this extraordinary place. On the occasion of the grand opening of the Minorite Monastery in Prague to the public, a SILVER COMMEMORATIVE COIN was presented.
"The Czech Mint is a long-standing partner of the Helas Business Platform. It is clear that we share an enthusiasm for Czech business, but coincidentally, we are also connected by a link to distant Czech history. At the Czech Mint, we are currently preparing for an important anniversary. In 2025, it will be exactly 700 years since John of Luxembourg decided to start minting the first Czech gold coins. The famous florins were not used for payment at the market. They served mainly for international trade and were also a representative symbol – they were meant to show off how powerful, influential, and wealthy the Czech king was. Helas also honors the legacy of John of Luxembourg. It was in the Minorite Monastery in Prague, where the platform operates a center for culture, business, and social events, that the Czech king celebrated his marriage to Elizabeth of Bohemia. Together, we draw inspiration from the Czech past so that, like the rulers of old, we can help build a proud Czech Republic," says a representative of the Czech Mint.

This coin is part of the "Prague Motifs – Charles Bridge" collection.
Charles IV was a ruler who ensured that the glory of our capital city did not fade even after centuries. One of his most famous achievements was Charles Bridge, which is the motif of a silver coin from the Czech Mint, embellished with selective gold plating from a free series dedicated to Prague landmarks.
Prague is divided in two by the Vltava River, and it would seem that a city that was already an important metropolis in the 10th century must have been rich in bridges to facilitate travel and trade. The opposite was true – until 1845, there was only one bridge across the Vltava in Prague, namely Charles Bridge. A wooden bridge originally stood in its place, but it did not withstand the wild waters well, so in the second half of the 12th century, a stone bridge was built – one of the oldest north of the Alps – which was named Judith Bridge after the wife of Vladislav II. The stone structure eventually succumbed to flooding, but it wasn't long before Charles IV decided to build a replacement in 1357. The bridge, which was first known as the Stone Bridge or Prague Bridge and only since the 19th century as Charles Bridge, is over half a kilometer long, connects the Old Town with the Lesser Town, and is also an unusual open-air art gallery, as it is decorated with thirty Baroque statues and sculptures. Charles Bridge became an important part of European trade routes, the site of the martyrdom of St. John of Nepomuk and the battle with the Swedes, and ultimately an attraction admired by millions of tourists from around the world every year...
The reverse side of the coin, designed by medallist Ludmila Kracíkové, DiS., is dominated by a view of Charles Bridge with its Gothic Old Town Tower and the bilingual inscription PRAHA – PRAGUE. Selected parts of the relief are embellished with gold plating. As this is a coin issued under the foreign license of the island of Niue, the obverse side bears the necessary attributes of the issuer – the name and portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the nominal value of 1 DOLLAR, and the year of issue, 2020.
